This group of young athletes provided P.P.H.S with one of the most exciting basketball seasons in Panther Basketball history. This group of ladies competed in the Upper Ottawa Valley High School Athletic Association. These schools were both “A” schools (smaller enrollment) and ‘AA’ schools (with larger student bodies). Pontiac was an “A” school but played each team in the league and competed for the same league championship. There were approximately 10 schools in the Upper Ottawa Valley league.

During the 92-93 season, these ladies defeated usual league powerhouses Arnprior High School and Renfrew Collegiate Institute, both “AA” schools at that time. Pontiac went on to be undefeated throughout the regular season and travelled to Petawawa where they then beat General Panet in the U.O.V.H.S.A.A league championship by a score of 44-26. Led by P.H.S Athletic Hall of Fame member Kelly Schumacher, Kelly scored 33 of the 44 team points in the league final and was a dominant player that entire season. This team had a depth of talent, both offensively and defensively, that enabled point guard Erin Schock to provide a one -two punch with Kelly that other teams could not stop.

This star-studded team won the Eastern Ontario ‘A’ championship in a hard-fought tournament at Athens High School. They defeated the toughest team they had seen all year from Vankleek Hill to claim Pontiac’s first Junior Girl’s E.O.S.S.A.A. Title.

The most important feature of this team was their love of the game and each other. Each and every young woman gave their everything to succeed and to support each other.
