Cycle 1
Grades 7 & 8
Regular Academic Pathway
This pathway leads to the Applied General Pathway (see below). All students, unless otherwise designated, are in a regular academic pathway leading to a Secondary School Diploma.
Students may have adaptations (changes to the format, instructional strategies, and/or assessment procedures that do not alter the regular expectations of the curriculum) as indicated on an IEP. These adaptations allow the student to acquire and demonstrate the same learning as the other students.
Modified Academic Pathway
This pathway is either a 2- or 3-year program at PHS which leads to the WOTP Pre-work Training program (see below) when a student turns 15 years before September 30th. Modified Academic Pathway designations are usually determined by a team of outside professionals, school board consultants and parents at the elementary level prior to attending high school. At PHS our Modified students are integrated into the Regular Academic Pathway classes and have a technician assigned to them who provides individual support in a small group setting. A modification plan is included in the individualized education plan (IEP) as a means of helping the student to progress to the best of his or her ability towards the learning set out in the academic level of his or her classroom group.
CASP
CASP is a Competency-Based Approach to Social Participation program for students 12-15 years of age who have moderate to severe intellectual disabilities. This program advocates an approach to learning that is in step with the realities of students’ lives but also ensures they develop general competencies that will allow them to be active in community life to the best of their abilities. This pathway leads to the Challenges program (see below). At PHS, this program is available within a closed center known affectionately as “The Apartment”.
Cycle 2
Grades 9, 10 & 11
Applied General Pathway
This pathway leads to vocational training, college-level studies, or university. Students receive a Secondary School Diploma granted by the ministère de l’Éducation, de l’Enseignement Supérieur (MEES) when they complete grade 11 (Sec 5).
WOTP Work – Oriented Training Path
The Quebec Education Program (QEP) for Secondary Cycle Two (Grades 9, 10, and 11) has a Work-Oriented Training Path (WOTP). This educational pathway is unique because it is practical in nature and its main objective is preparation for the job market. The aim of the pathway is to help students construct their occupational identity, adopt behaviours and attitudes required in the workplace and foster their gradual integration into the work force, by offering them the opportunity to develop work related competencies in actual work settings. Students must be at least 15 years of age on September 30th before starting WOTP.

Training and Training for a Semiskilled Trade.
This is one education pathway (WOTP) with two distinct learning programs.
The WOTP has two learning programs:
- Prework Training
- Training for a Semiskilled Trade (TST)
Challenges Program
This program is an education approach aimed at fostering the social integration of students aged 16 to 21 who have moderate to severe intellectual disabilities. The curriculum includes work-related activities and helps to prepare the students for adulthood. The program culminates with an Attestation of Skills granted by the ministère de l’Éducation, de l’Enseignement Supérieur (MEES). At PHS, this program is available within a closed center known affectionately as “The Apartment”.

Mathematics Pathway
In grade 9, all students take Grade 9 math MAT306. At Grade 10, there are two levels of Mathematics, basic level Cultural, Social and Technical CST MCU414 and advanced level Science Math MSC426. Students who achieve a minimum of 75% or higher in both Math competencies at the end of Grade 9, will be eligible for Science Math. In a student’s Grade 11 year, at PHS we provide students the choice of either Science Math (for students who did MSC426), basic level Cultural Math MCU504 or an upgrading opportunity to Grade 10 Science Math MSC426.
Science & Technology Pathway
In grade 10, students have the option of taking Science and the Environment (SCE402) in addition to grade 10 Science and Technology (STA416) to gain access to the science and technology optional courses in grade 11 of Chemistry and Physics. Alternatively, the grade 10 Science and Technology (STA416) course can be a student’s last course in this subject area. See the QEP document for the Science and the Environment program option.
