Attended S.H.S 1956-1961
Macdonald College Physical Education Diploma
Bryan Murray began his coaching career in late 1970s and although he is best known for his work as a General Manager and NHL Head Coach, Murray was first and foremost a loving husband, devoted father, doting grandfather and a great friend. Bryan was a family man and mentor to many around the world and as far as his career led him, he never forgot his hometown of Shawville. Before his days in the hockey world, Murray spent time as a Physical Education Specialist at Shawville High School and as a local minor hockey coach. A great communicator with a sense of humor, Bryan turned to coaching at the Junior level in 1973 and made a lifelong career in the sport he loved. Murray finished his NHL head coaching career with a 620-465-131-23 record, was 5th all-time in NHL coaches with 600+ victories, and was recipient of the Jack Adams NHL Coach of the Year Award. Given his exceptional personality, Bryan easily connected with his students and players. He influenced people, did great things for the game and was proudly involved in his community.
